Weekend Skate

I love the winter air whipping by my cheeks on a cool afternoon, balanced atop of blades of steel as I push and glide atop a rink of new ice. This weekend the new University Circle outdoor ice skating is making it's debut...Sort of, more like high-density polyethylene skating.

Workers have assembled the jigsaw sheets of the milk jug-like surface in the grassy area between the Cleveland Botanical Gardens and Natural History Museum this week, along with lights for night skating and temporary buildings for concessions and skate rental.

It will be open to the public for free, mostly on weekends, until Feb. 16. Fridays and Saturdays : noon to 7pm Sundays : noon to 5 pm. To double check hours visit www.universitycircle.org. Don't forget to bring your mittens it's going to be a chilly weekend.

This sounds like a lot of fun! I'll have to add it to my list of things to do with my best friend on Saturday afternoons. I'm not quite sure where the Natural History Museum is located though. Is it by the CMA? I get so lost over there!*

Hello from Canada! I love this photo. I was a figure skater and coach. I started skating as a child on an outdoor rink and I can feel that air, that sun;hear the crisp ice under the blades. So lovely.
