Mansion Tour (9/29)

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

The Lakewood Historical Society presents an open house at the historic Faerber-Morse mansion.

Located at 13405 Lake Avenue (corner of Nicholson & Lake), the house was designed by renowned architect Gustave B. Bohm in 1914 for banker George Faerber. Shortly after completion, the home was sold to Agnes Morse, an executive at the Parish and Bingham steel stamping company. Mr. Morse lived lavishly, investing over $100,000 in improvements to the house. The house has a fascinating and varied history including a recent auction and foreclosure, which led to its purchase in 2005 by Mr. Sako Satka. Mr. Satka has offered the house to the Society for a fundraiser for the Lakewood Preservation Fund.

Tickets are on sale now for your chance to tour the historic Faerber-Morse House on Sunday 12:00- 6 p.m. $15 tickets can be purchased at Rozi’s Wine House, Geiger’s Clothing, Liberty Books and News, and Border’s Books

For information on the house visit www.lakewoodhistory.org/artifacts/lhsn17.htm. For ticket information visit www.lakewoodhistory.org

Perfect Paolo (9/29)

Saturday, September 29th

If you missed the LIVE London concert over the summer then you missed one of my favorite musicians, Paolo Nutini.
With Amy Winehouse recently "taking a break" Paolo is now on tour solo and now is your chance to see him live and up close at the Cleveland House of Blues.

Born and raised in Paisley, Scotland, Paolo Nutini is a 20-year-old singer/ songwriter blessed with a soulful, passionate voice and the natural gift of being able to tell a story in a song. Like many of the truly inspired singer/songwriters before him, Nutini has absorbed the soul of classic artist from both sides of the Atlantic and channeled it into something original, captivating, and dynamic. A truly charismatic live performer, his THICK Scottish accent will leave you wanting more.

"Last Request," "New Shoes" and "Jenny Don't Be Hasty" are just a few of my favorites.

To get to know Paolo visit www.paolonutini.com. For ticket information visit http://www.hob.com/venues/clubvenues/cleveland.

A Very Grape Weekend (9/29-30)

Saturday & Sunday September 29th & 30th, 2007

The Geneva Area Grape JAMboree celebrates the harvesting of grapes. Visitors may taste grapes, freshly squeezed grape juice, wine and various grape products. All entertainment, including “grape stomping,” is free! Two giant parades: Saturday, 1:30p.m. and Sunday 2:00p.m. featuring Ohio Festivals Queens. The art show, craft fair, street dancing, sports competition, and exhibits make the JAMboree an entertaining, JAM-packed weekend for the entire family.

Approximately 1500 acres of grapes are grown in the Geneva, Ohio area.
Most of the grapes are processed into juices, concentrates or wine. Specific growing conditions, which exist only in a narrow band from the Lake Erie shore to 10 miles inland, contribute to the success of grape growing in this region. In the fall, the warm waters of the lake help prevent early fall frosts which may damage the grape crop before it can be harvested. The local grapes, especially the concords, are featured at the annual Geneva Grape JAMboree

Geneva is in Northeastern Ohio, 2 miles north of I-90. For more information call (440) 466-JAMB or visit www.grapejamboree.com

Sunsets at Edgewater Pier

As summer sunsets grow earlier in the evening sky take a moment to enjoy a breathtaking sunset over Lake Erie. Last night while driving home on the Shoreway, I couldn't resist stopping at Edgewater Park to snap a few shots of the warm glow of the summer sun setting.

In the heart of one of Ohio's largest cities, Edgewater Park provides natural relief to the metropolitan skyline. Sand beaches, tree-lined picnic areas and panoramic views of the lake are found within the park along the Lake Erie shoreline. The fishing pier provides access for both fisherman and photographers alike.

While you are visiting the park, why not swing by the concession stand for a vanilla soft serve ice cream cone...or a box of bait. For hours and additional park information call 216.281.4900.
