I received this press release, and although I don't usually just report the information, I am returning from a long work trip and must get you-the readers some great around town happenings...so here goes it!!!!

The Market Avenue Wine Bar in Ohio City will host jewelry artists red i jewelry, Gai Russo and Deborah Woolfork for a stylish event that puts as much emphasis in doing good as looking good.

The three highly regarded artists, each of whom have a large following for their hand-crafted jewelry, will be launching their fall collections during the event, scheduled from 6pm to 10pm

Throughout the evening, raffle tickets will be sold for a grand prize, a grouping of three necklaces, one from each artist, all of which were specially designed to layer with one another (a $350 value). Ticket prices are $5, or three for $10. The drawing is at 10pm. One hundred percent of the raffle proceeds will be donated to the Cleveland Animal Protective League, with the specific intent to purchase spay and neuter supplies for its animal welfare clinic.

OUTERSPACE, The American Odyssey...an exhibit with 20 artists and collectives represented, 14 of them are from Cleveland.

Opening Reception 6pm-10pm, and Movie Night is scheduled for next Saturday August 28th, 6pm-10pm. The exhibition space is located on Huron Downtown CLE and it is a non-traditional gallery space provided by Pop Up City/Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative, and 1025 Huron Road, LLC Conor M. Coakley, Colliers Ostendorf-Morris.

Summer weekend!

How did it get to August already? Weren't we just planning our afternoon trips to the beach? Or what we'd pack on our evening picnic? Well, not to worry, we still have all of August and most of September keep up warm and enjoying the Cleveland outdoors.

Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative’s latest publication, Urban Infill vol. 3: Water|Craft, is out, and they’d like to welcome everyone (especially iheartcleveland readers) to the book release party!

Urban Infill is an imprint of CUDC, and these anthologies examine themes in contemporary urban design, urban architecture and planning that emerge from the challenges posed by the economic and ecological transformations of the 21st century.

Water|Craft is a collection of essays that look at urban and regional water issues and new design approaches. The impetus for this volume was the CUDC’s experiences in working with the volatile urban situation of Cleveland; a fragile economy, aging infrastructure and damaged ecosystem. Within this context, water plays a critical role in revitalization efforts for the region. Water|Craft highlights water-related best practices, particularly about water infrastructure made visible as a form-giver and a design driver. It includes several articles about water-based urban initiatives here in Cleveland, as well as a few national and international projects. Major funding for this volume was provided by The George Gund Foundation with additional support from the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District.

Bike Rack Bash (10/01)

Hey all you "hipster wanna be's," you "courier boys," and those of us who just like a great spin around the city, don't miss this weeks unveiling of the Bike Rack at Cleveland Public Art.

The event stems from a call for ideas...30 artists from across Greater Cleveland submitted public art ideas for the facade of a new bike station planned for downtown Cleveland. The submissions were reviewed and winners were chosen by community stakeholders from the Gateway and East 4th Street neighborhood.



Join Cleveland Public Art on Thursday at 5:30pm, to view all the entries and see an installation by the winning artists, Scott Stibich and Mark A. Reigelman II. 1951 West 26th Street, Suite 101.

Dragon Boat (8/29)

Dragon boat races are believed to have originated in China more than 2,500 years ago, contemporaneous with the Greeks beginning their games at Olympia. Beyond a sporting event, the races and water festivals serve as a veneration to the dragons, hoping for health through the dangerously warm and humid summer months.



The dragon boats are incredibly beautiful, and the event “incorporates high energy, fitness, team building and recreational exercise in a fun and competitive atmosphere,” festival promoters say. The event also is designed to promote the people and unique culture of Cleveland's Asian community. Opening ceremonies will take place on the patio deck of Cyrus Waterfront Restaurant and Patio, 2000 Sycamore Street. Races will be held immediately following the opening ceremonies and continue throughout the day. There's no admission fee for spectators.

Renegade Lunch, TODAY (6/11)

Have you heard the word? Ben & Greg's Renegade Lunch Project is at it again.



Be one of the first to show up at Mall B. TODAY for a scrumptious dining experiment. Who knows what they will serve, but gourmet it will be. Donations will be accepted as the lunch will benefit the good work of Cleveland Public Art, the organization responsible for doing so much to beautify our fair city.

Your Town

Today I had the privilege of having lunch (me & like 100 others) with Mr. Al Ratner, co-chairman of the board of Forest City Enterprises, Inc. His forecast for Cleveland was not as positive as I would have liked to hear, but the reality made sense. His main message to us "young" professionals was that Cleveland needed more people, more diversity and with this more positive change would happen. He challenged each of us to bring simply one family to Cleveland and it would make our city a better more prosperous place to thrive.

It was a gorgeous day downtown. The sun was shining, a warm breeze was rolling off the lake and over browns stadium. As I walked to my car I tried to reflect on the poem that Mr. Ratner left each of us with.... it took a bit of searching (thanks Hanna), but I would like to kick off this gorgeous weekend by imparting this poem to each of you.

I hope it speaks to you, like it did to me. Thanks Al! Happy Weekend.

Pools!

With the passing of Memorial Day weekend, your local neighborhood city pool SHOULD now be open!

I LOVE a public pool on a weekend afternoon. Nothing is better than a stack of junk mail, a large soda fountain diet coke, a layer of SPF 15 and the concrete around the sparkly blue pool water of your neighborhoods swimming hole. Why not check yours out this weekend...looks to be a great weekend weather wise!

Most outdoor pools are open from mid-May through Labor Day and many offer free swimming lessons. For more information, see the Cleveland Parks and Recreation Department Web site.

Vintage Edgewater

Last week I was lucky enough to accompany my friend Shannon on a buying trip (Shannon owns Stash Style in Chagrin Falls) to the Clark Country (near Dayton) Antique Extravaganza.

I found many odds and ends including a vintage purse, some great nautical buttons, an old retro Schwinn cruiser and many postcards.

As we welcome the official start to summer I thought I would share these postcards ($1 each) from Edgewater Beach in 1909! There is something about discovering a little image from one hundred years ago that is super cool. I hope you enjoy the cards as much as I do. Happy Memorial Day Weekend.

Shoes! (5/08)

If you are a fan of shoes like I am (total addict) then Shoes, Shoes, Shoes: Footwear Fashions Past & Present hosted by Cleveland Public Library, Social Sciences Department will be a reason enough to call in sick this Friday!

The documentary of Head Over Heels will be presented as well as an exhibit on the history of shoes. Come in and see what fashion and costume resources are available at the library. The exhibit will be on display throughout May.

This weekend head out to the Harold Clark Tennis Courts (located on South Marginal Rd. opposite Burke Lakefront Airport) for something other than a game of doubles.

Pedal Republik of Cleveland presents the first Bike Polo Tournament around town. Be there! Registration begins at 10am while the game play kicks off at 11am. (actual race at 4pm) Free for spectators, $10 bike team and $5 for a single rider.
