Fall "Curb-Shopping"

There is nothing that I "heart" more than a fun, FREE find.

During the next few weeks, as people clean out their basements and garages, make sure to keep your eyes peeled to the curb for those “must haves." Recently I scored this pair of small accent chairs..only in Cleveland! After a fresh coat of black lacquer, new foam for the cushions and chic black and white houndstooth fabric they are back to new. Now they reside in a lovely little apartment in Washington D.C....I sorta miss them. I will keep looking for another pair, there is plenty of paint and fabric left!

Happy Fall. Happy "Curb Shopping"

Cleveland is Sweet (10/20)

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

In 1922, Herbert Birch Kingston, a Cleveland, Ohio philanthropist and candy company employee founded Sweetest Day.
He believed that the city's orphans and shut-ins often felt forgotten and neglected, so he conceived the idea of showing them they were remembered. He did this through the distribution of small gifts. With the help of his friends and neighbors, he distributed these small remembrances on a Saturday in October. During the years that followed, other Clevelanders began to participate in the celebration ceremony, which came to be called "Sweetest Day".

In time, the Sweetest Day idea of spreading cheer to the underprivileged was broadened to include everyone, and became an occasion for remembering others with a kind act or a small remembrance. And soon the idea spread to other cities all over the country. This holiday is much more important in some regions than in others (Detroit, Cleveland and Buffalo being the biggest Sweetest Day cities).

Now isn't that sweet?

Iron Symon (10/14)

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

Don't miss Cleveland's own Michael Symon (owner of Lola's & Lolita's) as he heads into round two of the Food network's reality show, The Next Iron Chef.

Destiny seems to have played a role in Symon's journey to the kitchen and to the top of the national food scene. As an 11th grade wrestler at St. Eds High School in Lakewood, he broke his arm while practicing for a meet. Bored, unable to compete and looking for college money, the 16-year-old took a part time job at Gepetto's Ribs as a cook. His affinity for the culinary challenge was realized and this athlete decided he loved to cook.

Good Luck Michael, we are routing for you!

Free Night of Theatre

Free Night of Theater is Theatre Communications Group's exciting national audience development program designed to attract new audiences to America's not-for-profit theatres. Since the pilot program, which debuted in three cities in 2005, Free Night has expanded across the country and is being presented in over 70 cities this year.

As the Free Night program rolls out over an ever expanding national stage, we are thrilled to offer this unique opportunity to provide access to thousands of new audience members to experience the joy of theatre for the first time -- absolutely free of charge...right here in CLEVELAND!

I have already reserved 2 tickets for "AtTENtion Span: A Festival of 10-Minute Plays" at Cleveland Public Theatre, October 18th if anyone else would like to get tickets for this show as well, we could go as a group? But if you can't make it that night, take a peak at some of the other shows and dates that are available, very cool stuff.

For more information about Free Night of Theatre visit www.freenightoftheater.net (the site has been busy all morning, so keep "refreshing it" to get the goods!)
